The Figure Models Guild is an association of professional models who believe that modeling is an art form in itself. We believe that models are:
- A tool for the instructor
- A template for the artist
- An inspiration to the process
Members are expected to live up to minimum standards, which include:
- Dependability - to show up for scheduled appointments
- Punctuality - to arrive in a timely manner so as to be ready to model at the session starting time
- Skill level - to be able to perform basic gesture poses and hold long poses in a reasonable manner
- Professionalism - to conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times
Individuals who wish to join the guild are required to complete a Model Training Program, as described below:
- 1 to 1:30 Half hour narrative on modeling, with Q & A
- 1:30 to 2 Half hour modeling demonstration by male/female model
- 2 to 2:30 Half hour modeling demonstration by female/male model
- 2:30 on Half hour sessions for prospective models to modul using same format as demonstrations: 10-1 minute gesture poses; 2-5 minute poses; 1-10 minute pose
Successful candidates can become members, if they choose. It is not necessary to pose nude if the model does not intend to pose nude at paid gigs – there are clothed and portrait opportunities; however, the vast majority of modeling gigs are for nude models. Should a model decide to model nude for paid gigs, then it is a requirement to pose nude at this session. Models need not decide to join or pose if they choose not to. However, any model who chooses not to model will not be allowed membership in the guild, nor they be given any of the material available to those who successfully complete the program and decide to become guild members. This includes:
- Narrative on modeling
- Pose Guide - 1 inch digital images organized by male & female, then by standing, seated and reclining - 220 for female, 208 for male
- Figurative Arts Directory - a listing of all colleges, universitites, schools and major groups that hire models, with address, model pay rate and contact info
In addition, models will be included in the Model Registry, which is sent to all who hire models; and being added to an email list to receive notice of periodic requests for models that come from other sources.
Models are guaranteed privacy, and their identity will not be divulged to anyone, other than legitimate requests for models. However, I will never refer a model to an artist unless I know the artist personally, or the artist is referred by someone that I know personally and can trust.
